Garlic is known for its sposobnost to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood. But in fact, the list of its beneficial properties are much broader. Garlic has tonic, antibacterial, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antihelminthic, diuretic. It has hypotensive, vasodilator, fibrinolytic, anticoagulant, anti-inflammatory, radio-protective, adaptogenic, hypoglycemic, antioxidant properties. Garlic boosts immunity, improves the activity of intestinal microflora, activates the function of sexual glands; stimulates the secretion of gastric juice, mucus and bile, improves appetite.

The data of the scientific works of Robert Lin (1979) show that garlic protects human erythrocytes against free radicals and oxidation, and dry powder freshly dried garlic destroys free radicals.

Additionally, garlic has a beneficial effect on the condition of patients with cardiovascular diseases, normalizes heart rhythm, prevents the aggregation of platelets, contributing to lysis of fresh clots, slows the development of atherosclerosis. As in the experiments, and clinically established that preparations of garlic increase fibrinolytic activity, which is reduced in atherosclerosis, myocardial infarction.

Due to the presence of zinc, garlic is involved in providing immunity and the normal functioning of the sex glands, reduces the risk of infertility and sexual infantilism.

The therapeutic efficacy and therapeutic value of garlic is associated with the composition of numerous compounds such as vitamins, halidonisation, radamisto-hydrogen acids, inulin, essential and fatty oils, hormones, enzymes, choline, minerals, including iodine and selenium, saponins and other substances.

Scientists distinguish four main kind of action of garlic - antimicrobial, lepidosirenidae, fibrinolytic and inhibitory platelet aggregation.
Laboratory studies demonstrate the ability of garlic to reduce the levels of lipids (cholesterol) in the blood serum (Gebhardt, 1991). The reduction of cholesterol under the influence of the powder on the onions is confirmed by the data of the use of garlic in clinical practice. Mader (Mader, 1990) showed that garlic at a dosage of 800 mg reduces the average level of cholesterol from 266 to 235 mg/DL, which is 12% and triglycerides – from 226 to 188 mg/DL (17%). The best results were observed in patients whose cholesterol levels ranged from 250 to 300 mg/DL. Research Brewitt and Mitarb, 1991, confirmed these data, the degree of lowering cholesterol levels up to 23%.

In the medical school John. Washington in Colombia of garlic has been allocated a substance that prevents the formation of blood platelets. In this regard, the garlic can be useful not only during thrombosis, but also in hemorrhagic strokes.

Garlic is also rich in vitamins and minerals - protein – 6.2 g, fibre 1.5 g, fat 0.2 g, potassium – 250 mg phosphorus 202 mg, calcium 29 mg, sodium 19 mg, iron – 15 mg, Vit. With 1.5 mg, Niacin (B3) – 0.5 mg, thiamine (B1) – 0.25 mg, Riboflavin (B2) 0.8 mg, vitamin a 0.3 mg.

The results of medical studies to reliably confirm the high antibacterial properties of garlic, 1 mg allicin garlic's antibiotic activity corresponds to 15 1.E penicillin, so it is successfully used for treatment of acute respiratory infections, SARS and other bacterial infections.

Additionally, garlic is well known as a sedative. Dr. William CoE (CA) encourages children and adults to take powder or 錠剤 of garlic for the treatment and prevention of helminthic and parasitic infestations.

Published in 1990. data from Oxford University, claim that garlic preparations help to prevent the occurrence and development of malignant tumors due to the presence of a small quantity of germanium and ajoene.
Interesting data were obtained when working under the guidance of Dr. Benjamin Lau of Loma Linda University to study the effects of gamma irradiation on human leukocytes. Studies have found that during gamma irradiation in the control cells died, whereas cells cultured in liquid garlic extract, preserved alive. Dr. Lau recommends that all workers with instruments that emit ionizing radiation (computers, x-ray machines, Photocopying devices), as maintenance, take garlic medicines as a reliable means of protection from radiation.
